Well it's a good day for Sony, as their Playstation 3 has sailed past the 5 million consoles sales landmark here in the UK, helped no doubt by the recent launch of the Super Slim PS3, which is less than half the size and weight of the very first 60GB model.
“This is another historic moment for the PlayStation brand, and something I’m incredibly proud of," said Sony UK & Ireland MD Fergal Gara. "I’d like to thank all our consumers, retailers and 3rd party partners for helping us achieve this figure, and look forward to continued success.”
Chatting to MCV, Gara went on to expand upon the landmark, suggesting that it was the momentum that had drivven sales forward to this point and beyond that was exciting him, rather than necessarily the milestone itself.
“It is fantastic that we passed the 5m mark. But most importantly to me is not the milestone itself, but the fact that there is momentum behind it. And with the new chassis, and the way the market is panning out this year, PlayStation definitely has the momentum.”
“I am pleased with the talent we’ve got on board. You can actually feel the energy going through the business.
“These guys know that they have a lot to do to make sure the Christmas plans are sharp and focused, and they have come to them relatively late. So they are working at a hell of a pace. I can already feel a positive buzz that wasn’t there only a few weeks ago.”
We reckon he's pretty chuffed.
