A new compulsory firmware update greeted PS3 gamers today. The US PlayStation blog said: “With this minor update, system stability during use of PS3 format software and network services has been improved.”
Essentially this small (and quick) update is just tightening up security and double-checking the locks. After the PSN hack we’re happy to put up with regular updates if it means our details are protected and our online gaming is uninterrupted.
The update could also be related to the new power-saving SKU console that’s about to hit shop stores, as that might have needed some last minute security measures after it had already left the production line.
