PS4 Entertainment Services & Broadband Partnerships Announced

Because you can't have a console press conference without mentioning entertainment, Sony dedicated a little time to talking telly and music. Not only will the PS4 finally allow for custom in-game soundtracks, but it will also have access to Twitch.TV, which will leverage the in-built spectate functionality. 20 different video service providers will be available at launch, while Sony Entertainment will naturally lock down the musical side of things.

We'll need plenty of bandwidth to use all this stuff, so Sony have forged some strategic partnerships with Orange and Virgin Media in the UK to offer custom gaming packages.

Short and sweet. That's how you do it Microsoft.

Not sure I really understand what these partnerships are designed to achieve? Surely users either have BBand or not?
Is it supposed to be aimed at people on a limited usage limits?

It was said in the SONY press conference that users can expect these custom gaming broadband packages to offer larger bandwith access (persumeably for streaming games whilst doing everything else on the PS4) so I'd take a guess these will be available at a premium.

Still, nice to know the option will exist and for those who can afford and facilitate it, I think this will be an exciting direction for home gaming (I'm quite interested in the potential this has for future gaming tbh).

I like reading that Sony added features that should have been in the last gen console, like cross game chat, or listening to your own music; makes you think how we ever lived without them.. heheh.
