PS4 Will Be Region-Free, HDD Upgradeable

Matt Gardner
PS4, Region-Free, Shuhei Yoshida, Sony

It seems a little backwards to see Microsoft winning ground with apparent exclusives, and Sony scoring big points with services and functinality, but this is, it seems, the way that the next-gen battle is going.

And Sony just bagged themselves another few points for those keeping score, announcing that PS4 will be region-free and, just like the PS3, will have a removable HDD.

Responding to a question on Twitter, Sony's Brad Douglas said: "SCEI PR tells me "no region locking". This was later backe u when Sony Sorldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida tweeted "And yes, PS4 is region free :D".

A couple of miutes later, Yoshida confirmed that the PS4 would have a removable hard drive, making life easy for those looking to expand their storage.

In case you missed it, Microsoft's Xbox One will be region-locked and will have a fixed storage drive. So, easy deicsion for import fans and modders, then.

I'm guessing from the size of the box it'll be a 2.5" HDD, which is a shame as I'd love to stick a 4TB drive in. :D
