Geomerics, a game tool design company, has updated their real-time lighting tech to take advantage of the PS4. According to the founder and CEO, Sony's upcoming console allows them to develop without current-gen "compromises."

UPDATE: Geomerics have released the (more spectacular) second part of the tech demo, which we've embedded after the break.

"We are delighted to be working on PlayStation 4. The hardware is everything we were hoping for in a next generation console, and a huge step forward from the current generation," said Geomerics founder Chris Doran. "Real-time global illumination was a big deal for games running on the current generation of hardware, but it required developers to make some compromises. With PlayStation 4, those days are behind us." [via CVG]

Developers are queueing up to sing the PS4's praises at the moment, not limited to admissions of physical arousal.

Let us know what you make of the tech demo (let them have this one, PC gamers...).

Oh sorry, let them have this one.... right.

Yeah, it's awesome! Looks amazeballs.

Regardless, I am hyped for the PS4. Even more so, I am really happy that people are liking developing for the PS4. Should bring some great things. This lighting thing is one of the exact things why I was saying we needed a new generation for ages. Even if the game graphics are the same, you can have loads of extra little tweaks at very little dev cost and that would make it looks much much better for minimum effort.

I wasn't impressed by this, am I missing something?

Also, why have a tech demo showing off graphics, but only release it in 720p?
