PS4 Update 1.61 Set to Fix CE-34878-0 Crashes?

Earlier this week we saw the latest PS4 firmware update pop up when we turned on our PS4s. Keen to see what new feature we were getting, we had a look what was included with the new 1.61 update. With the previous update mainly focusing on adding official headset support, we were hoping for something directly targeting the dreaded CE-34878-0 error message which appears on a regular basis for many gamers, either causing corrupted save files or even crashes when browsing their capture collections.

The patch notes are a little vague if we're honest and will be familiar to PS3 gamers, as it was a regular feature of that console's updates. But with the PS4 being rather crash-prone in recent months, maybe the notes have a bit more relevance this time around. The notes simply say, "System software stability during use of some features has been improved." While not addressing CE-34878-0 directly, that does sound like a potential match. I've put about eight hours into playing a few games (Tomb Raider and FIFA 14 if you're asking) since the patch and haven't experienced a crash yet.

But for all I know, one could be lying around the corner, just waiting to savage my 40-hour Assassin's Creed IV file. We'd love to hear from any of our PS4-owning readers to see if they've noticed any improvements since the patch. Once we've sorted out this problem, maybe we can move onto the issue of the rapidly degrading rubber on the DualShock 4's analogue sticks? I mean, would we be able to return them or what?

Lets hope so! Having more than a couple of hours gameplay wiped out through corrupt save games is enough to put me off playing a game completely (Looking at you... Fallout New Vegas...)

I'm always a bit dubious about vague 'Stability improvements' - They said that about the recent BF4 patch and its been worse than ever. They said it about the recent Xbone update, and that's been as crashy as ever as well.

I don't think I've seen a crash since the update, but it always seems like I don't have one for a while then I have a few in a couple of days, plus I've never lost a save file.

Also there was a patch for BF4 yesterday that seems to have improved the connection quality, although at the same time it seemed to stop servers showing up on the server browser. DICE never seem to be able to fix anything without breaking something else.

nope i still have the issue on the two games i have AC4 crashes after 20 minuted of game play and corrupts the save file on shadow fall i can get through 1 1/2 matches before it crashes to the error screen.

Let's hope so as I still get crashes and errors a few times a week as I'm sure many do, this fact gets hidden by fanboys too insecure to admit our ps4 has problems or we'd hear about these problems a lot more. So sony I hope you fixed them.

Never experienced this problem, but I still got disc ejector problems post update. That problem is seemingly more prevalent, with a few minutes or so of beeping and the disc drive trying to eject a disc that doesn't exist, every time I turn the system on.

I had a crash a couple of hours after the update, trashed 45 hours of NBA career

Still no crashes since the update *touch wood* but I have plenty of problems with the party chat - getting kicked out all the time, unable to make parties, unable to invite people to parties, it's barely functional. Well ok it does work most of the time, but when it stops working, it completely dies.

Since the update I can't play online using wifi. I can log into psn and use the store but no browser and online gaming.

Using wired connection I can play online gaming but still no browser

Spoke to sony and they said to re-initialise the ps4.
When switched off keep finger on power button (console not controller)
When you hear the second beep it will enter a mode where you can choose different options.
It seemed to have fixed the wifi problem

I'm having the issue with ce 34878-0, I'm playing FIFA 14, mainly on career mode, Ive contacted Sony regarding this just to be told there is nothing more they can do, I'm really annoyed and angry given how much I paid for my PS4, wished I had stayed on PS3, Ive down everything possible which has taken me over 2 hours today only to be plagued with the same issue over and over again, seriously considering selling my PS4 and getting an xbox one

Never had this error until yesterday. Downloaded the digital version of Thief and crash after crash occured while trying to play. Tried everything to fix. After doing research, Sony was made aware of this problem by early customers just after launch! This BIG MIDDLE DIGIT is for you SONY! I've been on Sony since the start and owned every platform. But this will be my last. Every platform has gotten worse due to the ineptness of their customer support and their inability to fix issues and/or communicate them. The PSN has always been HORRIBLE, but instead of scraping for the old platform we get this! It is one reason I still buy discs! I would have happily dowloaded the game using their network, but it never worked properly. But now I'm hearing that even those using discs are having the same error code. I'm a heavy gamer and they have missed many games due to their ineptness to build a proper network. I have top notch GPU, MOBO and CPU that has played on a 144hz monitor for every game with no issue....and I BUILT IT MYSLEF! Sony, with all it's resources can't deliver a simliar product or at least one that works? To hell with your BS consoles. I got the feeling, that most of us hard core gamers will be cutting the PSN cord soon if this isn't resolved....I know I will.
