PS4 Video Capture Won't Require PS Plus Subscription, Is Free For Everyone

Earlier today, we learned that only Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to record and share game footage with the in-built DVR.

A fact that Sony has wasted no time in pointing and laughing at.

Sony president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida has spent the last few hours tweeting at fans curious about whether the PS4 will restrict free users from capturing game footage. "No," was the short answer. "Will the PS4 recording feature be available to all or only those who have PS+?," another potential customer asked, before simply being told "all."

So there.

The PS4 will record the last fifteen minutes of footage compared to the Xbox One's five. Many games will use the 'share' button to facilitate quick uploads to YouTube, Ustream or Twitch.

Once more, Sony shows that they listen to their audience. It still baffles me as to how Microsoft are 'selling' the DVR functionality as part of their Gold service. :|

Capturing game footage of what exactly ?.
If you are not in a popular multiplayer game it's pointless.

Let's be honest after Ms announced "unlimited cloud space for ALL Xbox One owners" that has really made these gimmicky game replays etc announcements look rather weak.

"Capturing game footage of what exactly ?"

Single player footage is just as interesting to random people on YouTube as multiplayer is to random people.

No one cares. It's all pointless.

So why lock it down in the first place.

Simple bit of PR by Sony, pointless failure by MS.

Doesn't surprise me that you need gold to use it, you can barely do anything on 360 without gold. As Divide said, it's really simple for Sony to offer it to everyone and just look a bit better yet again.

How do Microsoft not see what they're doing?

Time after time they announce something then look fools when Sony announce a few hours later that they're doing it better/cheaper/free.

Of course you need the ability to capture single player footage. Without it, how else would the world know about Ladder Goat?

Ladder Goat - LOL.

Or more precisely "Ahh hahahahahhahhhh, ah iiihh hahhahhahahahhhhh"
