PSA: Introducing The Dealspwn Editor's Choice Award

We take our reviews pretty damn seriously here at Dealspwn, and we like to think of our 1-10 scale as a barometer for quality, value, technical execution, conceptual innovation, and fun.

But sometimes something more is needed. A game can be exceptional fun, but technical limitations might mean that it's impossible for us to give it a higher score than a 7 or an 8 - both good scores for a game to receive, but often recommendations that come with caveats. Since Dragon's Dogma we've been debating how to bring about a simple way of elevating certain games that fall into this difficult area above their similarly scored peers, and we've finally worked out a way of doing so.

So it is that we're very pleased to unveil...the Dealspwn Editor's Choice award!

At the highest end of the scoring spectrum, the Editor's Choice badge will be reserved for games of the highest quality, an emphatic recommendation from all of us here on site to complement the games that receive scores off 9 and 10 going forward.

But, perhaps more importantly, select games that receive scores of 7 and 8, should they prove themselves exceptionally worthy, compelling, ambitious experiences, that we feel deserve a little greater attention than perhaps their score bracket will allow, may also receive the award.

Win An Awesome Game Every Month

We're also going to start running a Game of the Month section. On the 1st of each month, we'll put our heads together and come up with our top three recommendations from that month, along with a list of all of the games awarded an Editor's Choice award for that month. Of course, we'll be inviting you wonderful people to comment and cast your own votes too, with a chance for all who get involved to win a copy of our top game for that particular month. There'll be more details to  follow come October 1st.

You can find out more about our reviewing process here, along with info on how to apply to be an associate reviewer.

Are the competitions going to be on the site as well, or just on Twitter?

Good call. Love dealspwn to bits but I ain't signing up to Twitter for anyone.

Great news about giving regular prizes away, though! :D
Great for fans of the site, and hopefully it'll bring more people here. Gets a bit quiet sometimes! :(

The monthly giveaway will be onsite. Ironing the details out at the moment, but it'll be something simple such as commenting with your game of the month or debating a topic of the month or something like that. All participants will then be entered into a hat and the winner chosen at random.

We might shake it up every so often with different methods of entry, but all of the monthly ones will be site-based.
