Sony has confirmed (with amazingly short notice) that the European PSN servers will go offline later today in order to affect some scheduled maintenance. This will curtail every aspect of the PS3's online functionality - but there are a few ways that players can work around it in order to get their multiplayer kicks during the blackout. We have a full details below.
On the European Playstation Blog, S0ny has confirmed that the PSN servers will go down between 4:05 PM today and reactivate at 3:00 tomorrow morning. Sony will be using this time to tweak the marketplace as well as (we assume) beefing some security measures in the wake of the latest embarrassing custom firmware debacle.
During this time, players won't be able to access the Playstation Store on PS3 or PSP, register new accounts or manage their own PSN account information. You also won't be able to partake in online multiplayer... unless you sign in before 4:05 this afternoon and keep your PS3 running.
If you wish to play online during the maintenance, please ensure you sign in to PSN before 16:05 on Wednesday 9 March 2011.
Don't despair, trophy hunters. Your beloved rewards will be stored offline until tomorrow morning, where they'll be updated next time you log in.
I know it's short notice, but if you're craving some Killzone 3 action later this evening, it might be time to take a half day. After all, I can hear those sniffles and hacking cough from here. Maybe it's flu? You should probably head home to be sure. [EU Playstation Blog]
