PSN Welcome Back Package Detailed: Here Are Your Free Games!

Forget the identity of the shadowy figures behind the PSN incursion for one second. What we're primarily concerned about, in the short term, is free conciliatory swag... and Sony has blown the lid off of the free games that European PSN account holders will be able to choose from once the Playstation Store is brought back online.

PS3 owners will be able to choose two games from the the following list:

  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Infamous
  • Wipeout HD/Fury
  • Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
  • Dead Nation

And PSP owners will be able to pick two titles from this slightly smaller smorgasbord:

  • LittleBigPlanet PSP
  • ModNation PSP
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation*

As well as these goodies, you'll also receive the following:

  • 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers*
  • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given 60 days free subscription.
  • For existing Music Unlimited subscribers, you will be given 30 days free subscription.
  • Some sort of Playstation Home offer, currently TBA

You can read up on the full details over at the EU Playstation Blog - and let us know what you'll be downloading!

UPDATE: After concerns that most PS3 and PSP consumers already own these titles, SCEE Head Of Communications Nick Caplin has responded in the comments. Apparently it's "hard to offer something for everyone."

We’ve tried really hard to put together a list of high quality BD games, rather than simply offering cheaper PSN titles. The average metacritic rating for these games is over 84%, so these are high quality games. Unfortunately with a user base of 77m people, it is really hard to offer something for everyone.

Are you satisfied with the Welcome Back Programme? Have your say in the comments!

Luckily there are 2 games on that list that I don't own

Two games on each list that I don't own. Unfortunately for the PS3 one it's the two lower value games of the set.

Also, unsure on whether to go for the downloadable LBP psp instead of one of the ones I don't own so that I can download it on the NGP when it comes out, as I won't be able to use my UMD on that.

I already traded in my PS3 as I lost confidence in the Playstation brand and Sony with their inability to protect our data.

This was pretty much seen as a good move after I logged into the user account facility yesterday to update my password only to be presented with over half my credit card details being displayed on the screen and not the usual last 4 digits.

I already own LBP as it came with my PSN+ subsription (it also came free with a lot of people's consoles). I already own Wipehout HD/Fury because I cought it more than ayear ago. I'll probably take Infamous and never played it as I was bored with the 1 hour Plus trial and I'll take Dead Nation. It's not a stunner, I've got to say. I'd like a free month of DCU:Online seeing as we are staying inside the Sony stable. At least I get 60 days added onto my sub.

Fair play to Sony for giving away a few games, they did not have to. I don't own a PS3, and never have, but I do have a PSN account. Does anyone know if there is an expiry date to claim the free games?!

Sean  May. 17, 2011 at 14:05

Russell - yes, you have 30 days to claim the downloads.

As for the 'rewards' package? Rubbish. There is only one game on the list that I dont own, and there is a reason why I don't own it (LBP - I already have LBP2 so there is no point in it).

'it is really hard to offer something for everyone' !?!?

Easy. Give them the gift of choice. £20 credited to everybodies account, bingo - every single PSN member would have been happy. But no, they take the stingy way out, offering up some outdated old crappy games that nobody would have bought anyway. One of the titles they're offering is from 2007 for gods sake!

The Gamer  May. 17, 2011 at 15:49

Not a bad selection of games. I was hoping for Undead Nightmare but I figured the choice would be from a selection of older games. I'll be getting Infamous and then either Wipeout or Ratchet and Clank.

If you have one Playstation account and own both a PS3 and a PSP do you get both sets of games?

aaron  May. 18, 2011 at 19:56

how do you get the games ???

Mat74  Jun. 3, 2011 at 13:41

So let's get this straight!
You have to sign up for ""90"" days PS PLUS get 30 days for free be obliged to pay for 2 months PS PLUS and get 2 games for free?

Where's the Gratis in that???

I've just found out that the free games EXPIRE. Suffice to say, I DIDNT GET COMPENSATED. For those of us that log on intermittantl, we've been screwed over.
