PSN Roundup: Planes, Brains and Wargames

This week, PSN brings us another wedge of discount goodness, a new downloadable game and a mass of DLC add-ons. Let's face it: you're here to save some money- so let's crack straight on with the deals!

PS3 Deals (available until the 18th of March)

  • Cellfactor: Psychokinetic Wars £7.99 £3.99
  • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix £7.99 £3.99
  • Age of Booty £7.99 £3.99
  • Far Cry 2 Fortunes Pack £3.99 £2.39
  • Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. Supremacy Pack £7.99 £3.99

PSP Deals (Also available until the 18th of March)

  • Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 £15.99 £7.99
  • Tom Clancy's EndWar £15.99 £7.99
  • Chessmaster: The Art Of Learning £15.99 £7.99

The standout deal here is Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (hell, I'll just call it Puzzle Fighter from now on). This horrendously addictive puzzler blends frantic tetris style gameplay with head-to-head battling and wraps it all up in an eyepoppingly cute graphical style. It'll be a guaranteed hit at parties... once your guests recover from their epilepsy. All joking aside, Puzzle Fighter II is a great little game that deserves your attention at this price.

So, what's new?

Vandal Hearts: Flame of Judgement (the 3D successor to Konami's classic strategy RPG) is now available on PSN. I've been playing it practically nonstop since its XBLA release several weeks ago: this is a great little game that demands tactical excellence and rewards shrewd unit placement. Unfortunately, the art style is locked somewhere between Fable and WiiMiis- making it difficult to sit through even the demo cinematics without having to vomit copiously into the nearest receptacle. There's still a good few hours of sound power levelling to be had here; so long as your stomach's strong enough!

New DLC 'add-ons'

  • Resident Evil 5
    • Desperate Escape
    • Costume Pack 2
  • Operation Flashpoint: Dragon RisingOverwatch Pack
  • Dante’s Inferno – Dark Forest
  • Race Driver GRIDPrestige Pack
  • Dragon Ball: Raging Blast Ultimate Warriors Pack 1

Most of us couldn't care less about the RE5 costume pack, but the Desperate Escape add-on chapter is a fun, frantic and worthwhile addition to the franchise. Expect Left 4 Dead-style cooperative thrills as your backs are forced firmly against the wall!

Music Game Highlight: Karaoke Revolution

  • How You Remind Me
  • Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay
  • You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling

It's weird that a casual karaoke game deserves this week's highlight- but these are some classic tracks right here. Nickelback injects some much-needed cheesy rock into the mix, and Otis Reading's chilled out masterpiece is suitable for any occasion. Most importantly: future wingman duty will be a breeze with Top Gun's seminal ballad. Just approach your target, grab a microphone, bend down on one knee and pour your heart out... here's hoping that your wingman will back you up!

Finally, the Just Cause 2 demo has also been released. Square Enix's high-octane sequel to the (underrated) sandbox series is shaping up to be very special indeed, and we've finally got the chance to jump off a massive cliff and blow stuff up in creative and imaginative ways. Or just shoot things with the gun that you have. It's a sandbox after all- let us know what crazy shenanigans you guys get up to!
