Sony's exclusive stable provides the PS3 with an ever-expanding unique selling point... but they're not all big budget AAA releases. They've recently praised the Indie scene as being the only source of innovation left in gaming, and to support them, Sony has pledged 20 million Dollars to several smaller independent studios who are willing to develop exclusively for the PS3, PSN and PS Vita. This is an awesome initiative, and we're excited to see the results.

It's our sad duty to report on yet another EA server cull. I hate having to do it, but to be forewarned is to be forearmed. This latest shutdown is set for August 11th, and is set to include Army Of Two, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat and Need For Speed: Most Wanted. We have the full list after the break.

Achievement hunters, it's time to get your skates on.

Sony has announced that RPGs White Knight Chronicles II and White Knight Chronicles: Origins will finally be releasing on PS3 and PSP respectively on June 10th in the UK and Ireland, on June 9th in Australia and New Zealand and June 8th in all other PAL countries.

Level-5's WKC II released in Japan back in 2009, as the original was first contemplating appearing upon these shores. Brendan branded it a pretty solid, if unassuming, RPG back in early 2010.

psn happy

Forget the identity of the shadowy figures behind the PSN incursion for one second. What we're primarily concerned about, in the short term, is free conciliatory swag... and Sony has blown the lid off of the free games that European PSN account holders will be able to choose from once the Playstation Store is brought back online.

PS3 owners will be able to choose two games from the the following list:

  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Infamous
  • Wipeout HD/Fury
  • Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
  • Dead Nation

And PSP owners will be able to pick two titles from this slightly smaller smorgasbord:

  • LittleBigPlanet PSP
  • ModNation PSP
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation*

As well as these goodies, you'll also receive the following:

  • 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers*
  • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given 60 days free subscription.
  • For existing Music Unlimited subscribers, you will be given 30 days free subscription.
  • Some sort of Playstation Home offer, currently TBA

You can read up on the full details over at the EU Playstation Blog - and let us know what you'll be downloading!

UPDATE: After concerns that most PS3 and PSP consumers already own these titles, SCEE Head Of Communications Nick Caplin has responded in the comments. Apparently it's "hard to offer something for everyone."

We’ve tried really hard to put together a list of high quality BD games, rather than simply offering cheaper PSN titles. The average metacritic rating for these games is over 84%, so these are high quality games. Unfortunately with a user base of 77m people, it is really hard to offer something for everyone.
