Fans of high speed, completely over the top off-road racing games will find little complain about with Pure. Currently the game is going for £9.99 on Game which is the cheapest deal presently available. It was going £2 cheaper on the Game Station website at £7.99 but they are currently completely sold out.
Pure is simply about gaining massive, completely implausible amounts of air and pulling of a variety of hair raising stunts as you tear around courses on a quad-bike. A reward system enables players to gain an added speed boost for pulling of complex tricks whilst also penalising them for repeating the same stunts too frequently. The game was generally well reviewed; gaining particular praise for its graphics and the scenery of its levels which one reviewer described as ‘pure eye candy’.
The game features 3 different race types. ‘Freestyle’ in which the emphasis is purely upon pulling off as many tricks as possible within a given time limit. ‘Sprint’ where players must negotiate 5 laps which feature fewer jumps and tighter turns, and ‘Race’ in which it’s an all out battle to the finish line with massive jumps, twisting turns, and loads of opportunities for freestyle
Players who expect a little more depth from their racing games would probably do better to look elsewhere as Pure is definitely not a race simulator. There is little more to it than absurdly intense, faced past, gravity defying gameplay which, I have to admit, does sound great!
