Red Orchestra 2 Gets Another Free Map Pack

Red Orchestra 2 is currently selling for peanuts on Steam, and just to sweeten the pot, Tripwire Interactive have released another three maps for free.

Tripwire recently held another mapping and modding contest, the winners of which have featured in a new Counterattack Map Pack. Available for the bargain price of absolutely no money whatsoever, this fan-made DLC contains:

  • Bridges of Druzhina - features asymmetrical gameplay with the Soviets attacking across open country supported by a single tank, through a destroyed city and on to the final bridge.
  • Cold Steel - a lethal warren of huge factory buildings, creating both longer-range fire-fights and sudden, brutal close-quarters battles.
  • Gumrak Station - a re-imagining of an old favorite from the original Red Orchestra, as the Germans assault through trenches and a small village to the railway station of the title.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, this new trailer makes me wish I billed by wordcount.

Finally, Tripwire has a challenge for any aspiring arcitects. "If you've got a knack for making maps, the recently announced "Banzai" Mapping Contest for Rising Storm is in full swing," reads their latest press release. "With over $25,000 in cash on the line, the competition is sure to get fierce. You can find more information on the contest here."

Any takers?
