Tripwire Interactive are hard at work putting the finishing touches to Red Orchestra 2: Heroes Of Stalingrad... but at the same time, they've commissioned an elite crew of worldwide modders to create the expansion pack. Rising Storm is set to bring the Japanese theatre to life in two seperate campaigns, and I learned a couple of interesting tidbits from project lead Tony Gillham about the new weapons and features. Expect celebrity cameos and possibly a flamethrower!
Gillham, the British producer and military enthusiast in charge of Rising Storm, hinted that the 'All-Star Mod Team' are trying to implement a functional flamethrower for the Japanese campaign. This weapon is infamous for causing coders no end of problems as they have to program burning animations for enemies and the environment as well as the flame effect itself, but the team are doing their best to make it happen.
Apparently the campaign will also feature voice acting and character modelling from Japanese star Kazumi Nakajima and the son of actress Keiko Takeshita, along with footage from Japanese war re-enactors in order to make the experience as authentic as possible.
Stay tuned for our full preview for more Red Orchestra 2 details, as well as new info about the Rising Storm expansion from this capable team of bedroom developers.
