Red Steel 2 (with MotionPlus) £26.85 @ ShopTo [Wii Games]

We've featured a few deals for the standalone version of Red Steel 2 these last few weeks, but it was designed to be played with Wii MotionPlus. In fact, it's probably the only third party title to fully take advantage of the increased precision that the neat little gizmo brings to the Wii. Luckily, ShopTo has lowered the price of the RS2/MotionPlus bundle to £26.85- which will save you £3 compared to Gameplay (the nearest direct competitor). Note that most price comparison sites lump in standalone games right along with the MotionPlus bundle, so make sure to check the product descriptions!

Red Steel 2 injects the familiar Wild West setting with a healthy dose of Japanese Samurais and steampunk stylings. Playing as a cross between Clint Eastwood and Jet Li, you'll slice, dice and gunsling your way through a host of quirky foes and environments. The emphasis is on hectic swordfights- and you'll spend most of your time grinning like a maniac and flailing the Wiimote like you're on fire.

Whilst Red Steel 2 is a lot of fun, it's by no means a perfect game... and unfortunately most of the flaws stem from the very control setup that provides its unique selling point. Even with MotionPlus, the Wiimotes get easily confused with fast movements and increased distance from the screen. More distressingly, there's a fair amount of lag and slowdown when the action heats up, which can lead to some fairly frustrating moments.

But for all its flaws, you'll probably have a blast with Red Steel 2. It's got a unique setting, stylish visuals and bags of character- and players yearning for an action-packed Wii experience should seriously consider checking it out. Yeehaw!
