Made Possible Thanks To A Grant, Won't Affect Dreamfall Chapters
It's all getting a little busy for the folks at Red Thread Games at the moment. Development of Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey is in full swing, and the first convention for the series named JourneyCon will be taking place in a few weeks, but now the Norwegian-based team have announced that they will be developing a new game titled Draugen - "a first-person survival horror adventure amongst the mountains and fjords of the Norwegian west coast in the 1920s."
As the official website for the newly announced game explains, Draugen is inspired by Scandinavian literature, legends and fairytales, and will task players with exploring an fishing community where its inhabitants have suddenly vanished It will be up to the player to learn of history behind this place, solve the mystery of what has happened and, perhaps most importantly, "survive the night." As it stands, we only have a few pieces of concept art to go on, but the idea of the game has certainly caught my attention. You can find out more about Draugen by checking out the official website.
While the project has been made possible thanks to a $144,000 grant from the Norwegian Film Institute, it's only natural to worry that it could affect the development of the crowd-funded adventure title Dreamfall Chapters, but in a statement on the RTG website, the team made it clear that there is no need to panic.
I’m sure some of you are wondering how this might affect the development of Dreamfall Chapters.
The simple answer is: it won’t.
The slightly more complicated answer is that this will benefit Dreamfall Chapters.
As a growing company, we have been looking to start a second project for a while, and with this generous grant from NFI we can finally get started. We are building a new team to work on Draugen. No one currently working on Dreamfall Chapters will be affected — everyone’s staying put. But since both titles are being developed using Unity 3D, tools, technology and knowhow will be shared between the teams, benefitting all.
Our primary focus is and will continue to be Dreamfall Chapters.
So there we have it - the return of Zoë Castillo and co. will be unaffected, and we'll be getting another game from the fine folks at RTG through a brand new team. We'll keep you up to date with the progress of both Dreamfall Chapters and Draugen as we hear about it.
