A blurb on the website heralded the studio's return: "Our goal has always been to make the world's best RPGs. Black Isle Studios is back."
We love Black Isle Studios...that is to say we love the developers who gave us Fallout and Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale, but with much of the talent from years past having left to form Troika or with founder Feargus Urquhart to go and form Obsidian there's no way that this studio will be the same entity we remember.
"Doesn't involve Obsidian at all," former Black Isle lead designer Chris Avellone told Eurogamer. "No idea what it's about. I wasn't aware anything beyond the name was left at Interplay."
It could all be a hoax, although a WHOIS search does show the domain for the Black Isle website to be owned by Interplay Corp.
If it's really, we'd point out that simply calling a studio Black Isle won't make it so, and suggest that Black Isle without the likes of Urquhart and Avellone would be the same as Rare without the Stamper brothers or David Doak or...wait.....
