REPORT: PS4 To Cost £300

The Playstation Meeting is almost upon us, but there's still time for a little rumour and speculation at the eleventh hour, and indeed as the wheels begin to turn more rapidly, it looks as if a few pricing documents have slipped the NDA net.

The Times is reporting that "industry sources and leaked internal documents" have priced Sony's next-gen console, prepping for a reveal during Wednesday's presentation, at £300.

If true, it would be a hefty reduction from the PS3′s original, frankly laughable price-tag of £425.

This is the price most were expecting anyhow so if this is true then it's only a good thing. I know I've said that I'd like the Wii U to be cheaper as I'd be willing to pick it up if it was but I think Nintendo could have potentially capped the price Sony and MS can sell their next consoles at.

The Wii U is still managing to get more attention as time goes on and if its competition goes above £300 then they've got the price advantage.

This probably isn't the case at all but I'm just thinking out loud more than anything.

If all they did was convert a dollar amount of $479 that comes to a little over £300 but it never works like that and it would still be likely £399 in UK. That would be the lowest model too, barebones I imagine.

The PS3 was $499 at launch and exchange rates would have been a little different then so it's still likely to be comparable.

in the UK it would be progress just to get the console launched at the same time and without a bunch of features stripped away. The ball is in their court.

That £300 (if from a reliable source) must be before vat, surely.

I agree. There's no way it'll release over here for £300.

£400 or near enough, I would expect.

If Sony do release a PS4 and it is £300 on day of release and it performs well and the games look nice... I think they could be on to a winner.

If it's £300 for the new Sony then Nintendo might as well just stop production of the U.

I'm surprised at all the speculation there'll be two models (e.g. Core and Premium), as a lot of people are expecting. I hadn't considered that possibility.
Nintendo and Microsoft have form, but have Sony ever done that before?

Sony have only done that with the size of the drives. Not that we saw that choice on release day in the UK, I seem to recall it was 60GB or nothing at first.

Price of the console aside, it is if the games get locked to the console that will be the deal breaker for me.

Even if the PS4 was to come out at £200, but the games were still £40 and they would lock to your console forever, I would not be in.
