Report: PS4 Set For E3 Reveal Alongside Next Xbox?

A new report from industry trade magazine MCV purports that Sony's next-generation PlayStation will be unveiled at E3 2012, alongside Microsoft's newest offering and the Wii U. While the source remains anonymous, MCV's Ben Parfitt refers to him/her as "exemplary," "100% concrete" and "ultra high level." Take with a pinch of salt, but it's worth noting that MCV rarely mess around or debase themselves with spurious rumours.

If true, then, E3 2012 will be one of the biggest expos in gaming history - and this year will be critical for all three companies. With any luck, it will inspire some truly exceptional game development.

What do you want from the next PlayStation? Are you actually ready for it yet? Let us know!

I guess it would make sense for Sony to at least admit the PS4 is in development, so if the wii u and next xbox are released before you might consider waiting.

I'm not really ready for ps4 until maybe 2014. As for what features it might have, sony seem to favour the console as the media hub for the living room, so perhaps multi HD tuners, PVR built in, streaming to phones/tablets.
One thing I wonder if it would work is to allow the console to be upgraded memory wise. I know that steers a bit close to being a PC but if developers could take use of that extra memory it could be of great use a few years into a consoles life. The wii got away with requiring the wii plus and perhaps someone can tell me, but are there 360 games that require an HDD.

Bring on the next gen hardware.

Anything that can get the GFX and FPS up will be great. Sometimes it is really hard to go back to PS3 after gaming on my PC... though my PC does cost an easy 10 PS3s.

For the next one they need to make it work faster... much faster. Same with the PSN. Downloads on the PS3 are shockingly slow at times. I already like what they PS3 offers in way of BD, 3D and all the stuff like media streaming. As I dont have a TV license / watch TV, a PVR would be of no interest to me - but would be to many I bet.

I am a fan of Move so keeping support for that would be great.

Ideally, it should be able to stack - having the rounded top of the case so you cant put anything on it is pants and that alarm clock looking thing in the picture above is gross.

Basically then, Faster loading, More frames per second and some more gfx upping.

Gunnx - the only game I can think of is BF3 that needs the HD textures installing to play on the 360 - but you can play with the normal textures from disk.

Although I am sure it will be excellent, I will definitely be waiting until it's a few years old like I did with the PS3. There are so many excellent games across all platforms now that it seems stupid for me to leap right in when I can barely keep up with all the games being released at the moment.

That being said, if it does get released soon I do hope people buy it. If sales are poor we all suffer in the long run

Yeah that would be fine if you get a better exp if you upgrade, its just with consoles lasting much longer they do need some sort of upgrade path.

I remember the original ps3 designs having 2 hdmi sockets, so I wonder if they might put that back in, be cool if say you could watch a 3d movie while someone else plays a game, streaming the content to a remote monitor or maybe just a long hdmi cable to another tv.

Sony will hopefully make sure the gfx card is as beefy as can possibly be.

PS1 - 1994
PS2 - 2000
PS3 - 2006
PS4 - 2012+

Not sure how you can say consoles are lasting much longer. Seems exactly the same to me.

Actually, just thought. Would love backwards compatibility. Love that about my PS3 60gb. Can still play my original FF7 PS1 disks :) The newer PS3s dont support old games and that sucks.

I had ps1 at 5 years (eu lauch), ps2 at 7 years and as Sony stated they planned ps3 lifespan for 10+

Yeah, keeping the old ones running longer is good, but that should have nothing to do with releasing new consoles.

The PS2 ran well for ages after the PS3 release as it dipped into the cheaper end of the market. Actually, the PSone was relased in 2000 and ran for well over a year - so PS1 ran for at least 7 years.

But something new is due.

I dont want to get rid of the PS3 and its support, but the tech needs to move forward.

Personally I'd like them to drop all the media junk and the motion controlled rubbish. I've had both consoles plus move and kinect and can say I've barely used either or the media capabilities except the PS3's iplayer (until it YLOD). I'd just like something that played games well, with grunt and a sensible price tag. I spent £500 on a gaming PC 3 years ago and its still going strong (BF3 in HD at medium!) so why would I spend similar on something I then have to pay a monthly subscription to game on that also wants to force me to wiggle my hands about and can't detect me clearly in my medium sized front room (looking at you kinect)?? What happened to gaming...

Also i'd like it to be reliable on launch - how many lanuch xboxes/PS3s are still working???

not sure but I've still got my 60gb launch ps3 and never had a problem with it. I've certainly heard ppl saying they have problems with ps1/2/3 but for me I still have them all and they all work and never broke down.

I think it's interesting to see how PS4 will compare to X-box 720(or whatever..) in terms of spec. I own both PS3 and 360 as they do different things for me, the xbox has always been the gaming device and the ps3 more a media center thanks to the blu ray drive / iplayer etc. I only play a few exclusive games on the PS3 really (drakes, little big planet, resistance etc)

I think if the Microsoft and Sony offerings were fairly neck and neck in terms of their media capabilities I wouldn't bother with the next gen Playstation and just get the Microsoft console as I much prefer their exclusive titles and find xbox live way better than PSN.

Sony still seems to have studios to make exclusive games but is there still many out there for MS?

Well I can safely say I've spent more time playing Gears of War 1-3 than I have playing on the PS3 full stop.. Add to that the time I spent playing the Halo and Fable franchises and it's a huge number of quality games. Of the PS3 exclusives on the uncharted and LBP series have really done it for me, I found the likes of infamous and resistance to be very disappointing series. Even my beloved Metal Gear from the PS era was a real let down on PS3.. I think I played about 5 hours max before it hit the trade in.. While MS seem to lack developer numbers they make up for it in quality.

We'll just have to see how these series continue to develop on the next gen. MS do have a really confusing and disappointing attitude towards their developers (Alan Wake was a brilliant game but so badly handled!) so I can see it being harder to keep exlusives coming. However as it stands with this generation I've enjoyed far more xbox exlusives than ps3 so if choosing to early adopt again I'd likely go M$ before Sony... Ironically I owned a PS3 first and then bought a cheap 2nd Gen Xbox 360.. funny how it turns out sometimes!

Same. Still running my 60gb from DoR and still have my Original Playstation and PS2.

Also lemming, I loved MGS4. Thought it was absolutely epic.
