Report: SEGA Finished Shenmue 1 & 2 HD A Year Ago

After teasing that an HD version of Dreamcast classic Shenmue might be on the cards earlier this week, a new report claims that SEGA has actually been sitting on finished code for a year. Not only that, but Gamerzines' anonymous industry source purports that SEGA has also finalised Shenmue 2 HD and is holding the two downloadable games back.

“Shenmue HD is real [and has been] finished for well over a year. As is Shenmue II HD.”

According to the insider, SEGA has been sitting on the downloadable revamps while they've been deliberating the future of the Shenmue franchise - i.e. whether "Shenmue 3 would ever see the light of day."

Great news (crossing fingers and hoping there's even a grain of truth!).

Sitting on them makes little sense to me. Today's HD is tomorrow's SD, release them now.. Maybe Sega are thinking of ways to make more money from the titles, if I remember rightly they were both rather large games. Maybe they are considering splitting them up into DLC chunks.
