Upgraded Your Rig? You'll Need Another Activation...
Ubisoft haven't exactly covered themselves in glory with their forays into the murky world of hacked DRM and misprinted Online Passes, and if a new report is to be believed, they've managed to cock up again. Guru3D was surprised to discover that Anno 2070's anti-piracy software can't tell the difference between an entirely new computer and a new hardware configuration, and since it only allows for three installs, meant that they couldn't review the game after switching out a GeForce GTX 580 graphics card for a GTX 590.
Even if this is an isolated incident, it's still a fairly embarrassing state of affairs. We love you, Ubisoft, but we reckon that less might be more when it comes to your DRM.
CONFIRMED: The Anno 2070 Copy Protection FAQ states that this indeed the case - and the status quo rather than a single incident. However, you'll be able to contact customer support and request a new activation key if you legitimately need one.
