Report: Whore Of The Orient Fails To Find Publisher, Ex-L.A. Noire Devs Hit With Layoffs

According to a new report from MCV, KMM Media haven't managed to find a publisher for the mysterious Whore Of The Orient, resulting in numerous layoffs at the studio behind L.A. Noire.

MCV's sources allege that KMM Media, who absorbed Team Bondi's developers into the fold last year, have shelved development due to the lack of funding and interest. This has reportedly lead to "significant" layoffs of development personnel.

KMM's Doug Mitchell suggests that they're still attempting to release the project, but confirms that they haven't attracted an investor, partner or publisher yet. "Whore of the Orient is a unique and extraordinary story and game," he said, "and we are still actively pursuing the right investor to partner with."

As we learned last year, Whore Of The Orient was set in 1930's Shanghai (hence the name), described as "the most corrupt and decadent city on the planet, where anything can be had or done for the right price." With the exception of a couple of pieces of concept art, we haven't heard word one about the next-gen project for several months.

I'm not sure game devs being laid off is news these days, it's outrageous how many of them are losing their jobs.

Given the sensitivity of some publishers towards charges of misogyny it isn't that surprising given the title.
