Major retail websites crushed under Black Friday demand [UPDATE]

Black Friday

Black Friday madness is in full swing, and it's clear that several retailers simply don't have the server infrastructure required to deal with the insane demand as gamers flock to pick up console bundles and massive videogame savings.

UPDATE 2: GAME are coming back online, but currently haven't updated many deals to match in-store offers.

At the time of writing, major UK high street retailer GAME are down and out, admitting defeat in a statement on-site. "Due to the overwhelming response to our amazing Black Friday offers, we're experiencing a technical difficulty on our website but are working to get it back up and running as soon as possible", they've announced. "We have 321 stores across the country where you can still get some amazing Black Friday deals."

Tesco Direct and Very are also both struggling to stay online at the time of writing, with both sites either redirecting or simply refusing to load. UPDATE: Very now seem to be back afloat for the time being.

Naturally we'll keep an eye on the situation, and it's worth noting that many of these deals will be available in-store. Remember, lead with the shoulder and try not to crush too many pensioners underfoot.

A shame that some of the violence that plagues US Black Friday has found its way here. There's much to be said about shopping from the sofa... if the servers hold, that is.

Agreed. Come on guys: we're British. We can queue better than this!
