This is getting almost unbearable. We've known for months that Retro Studios -- the outfit that brought us the sublime Metroid Prime trilogy and Donkey Kong Country Returns -- are beavering away on an unannounced project. They keep letting us all know they're working on it, whilst steadfastly refusing to tell us what it is!
However, we might not have to wait too long to find out.
Chatting to ONM about why the studio didn't take a lead development role on the port of DKCR to 3DS (that's being handled by Monster Games), supervisor Hiro Yamada said that Nintendo had other plans for Retro.
"We wanted to use Retro's development resource for another new title, so we talked to Monster Games about porting this title. They were comfortable with the 3DS technology and had development experience on 3DS with Pilotwings Resort 3DS , so they heartily agreed.
"In actual fact, their technical ability was at such a high level that Retro was also impressed, and although the frame rate had to be dropped from the Wii version's 60 frames per second to 30 frames per second, almost all other aspects of the game were ported to the 3DS brilliantly."
But what about this talk of "another new title"?
"I wonder what kind of game it is?" Yamada trolled lightly. "I hope to introduce it to you in the not so distant future."
