Deep Silver and Piranha Bites have officially taken the lid off Risen 2: Dark Waters. The sequel to their 2009 RPG will apparently feature a "fresh story," expanded setting and an entirely new technical foundation on consoles and PC. Oh, and filthy pirates.
Risen 2: Dark Waters will be set several years after the conclusion of the original game; this time centring on a swarthy band of seagoing pirates who have to take arms against monstrous aquatic titans. These terrifying opponents have all but rendered humanity extinct, meaning that our protagonists will need to explore a range of tropical islands that should provide a welcome burst of colour in the "dark and gritty universe."
The new engine will be able to render significantly enhanced graphics and full day/night cycles, as well as building on the deep level of character customisation that the original brought to the table. In terms of gameplay, Deep Silver promise that each and every challenge will have multiple solutions that will affect the world in significant ways.
Whilst it wasn't spectacular by any stretch of the imagination, Risen was a solid RPG that more than deserves a sequel. We'll keep you updated with the latest, but why not check out the official site for more details?
Risen 2 is slated for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Release date is TBA.
