Roberts To Return To His Gaming Roots With Upcoming Project

Regular "Micro-Updates" To Propel The Story Forward

8 days is all that stands between us and the reveal for Chris Roberts’ next game, and in preparation of this the Wing Commander creator spoke to Gamespot about his announcement next week at GDC Online. In the article, Roberts explains why he has returned after years making films, hints at his intentions for the game, and even supplies a teaser trailer. See the highlights and the video after the jump.

Roberts explained to Gamespot that because the technology available in the video games industry is now at the point where he can realise his ideas, he aims to bring back the feeling that the Wing Commander franchise managed to convey many years ago. He also states that he aims to achieve visuals that are “ahead of what next-generation consoles” will be able to muster up.

“"I want to get back to the roots of what I did in the old days with Wing Commander, which was, if you've got a really badass PC, this is going to show it off."

Making use of an online component (the full details of which have yet to be confirmed) Roberts hopes to release “micro-updates” to further the story along on a regular basis. He also discusses why he wants to go forth without a publisher, and why he would never do a mobile or social game. The article concludes with a teaser trailer, which you can find below. The full article can be found by heading over to Gamespot here.

In other news, it has been confirmed to members of the RSI website that those who have joined up before the October 10th reveal will be classified as “founders,” and their golden tickets will reward them with golden decals for their ships when the game finally arrives. What this means for the nature of the online component remains to be seen, but we should have more of an idea what to expect when we “make the jump” at next week’s reveal.
