With Xbox World promising to deliver a reveal of Mass Effect 3's 'killer new feature' in their October edition, a South African retailer has published an advertisement for the Collector's Edition that mentions the dreaded phrase 'online multiplayer pass'. Could this mean that multiplayer is coming to the final chapter in Commander Shepard's tale?
Rumours have abounded surrounding Mass Effect 3 and the possibility of multiplayer, with the issue proving rather divisive with fans online. EA's Andy Katkin suggested last week that we'd be hearing about 'big news that a lot of you have been eagerly awaiting' regarding Mass Effect 3 'within the week'.
Following that teaser, though, BioWare community manager Chris Priestly took to the forums to quell the flurry of Chinese whispers. 'I think I need to step in here as the expectations seem to be quite high,' Priestly wrote on the BioWare forums. 'There is no "big announcement coming this week". This was speculation from a guy who works at EA who was at the event in question. There is lots of cool Mass Effect 3 information still to come between now and March 6, but there is no planned ‘big announcement’ or whatever planned for the immediate future.'
When asked about multiplayer, Priestly replied: 'Another day, another rumor. I’ll be over here awaiting your inevitable disappointment when your rumors don’t happen or pan out as you think they will.'
But what of this latest advert? We can't help but hope that the release date was pushed back to finish polishing the singleplayer rather than shoe-horning multiplayer into a game that doesn't need it. Just a thought.
