According to a new report from MCV, Microsoft may be be partnering with Sky to offer Xbox One systems at a subsidised price with TV subscription packages. As a set top box, effectively.
"Sources familiar with the situation" allege that Microsoft and Sky are in the advanced stages of the deal, which would see Xbox One consoles flogged as set-top-box or a companion device. Since entertainment is a clear focus for the Xbox One, that already packs an HDMI-in port and DVR, it could easily function as a substitute for a traditional Sky Box (or allow you to plug in an existing Sky Box and watch TV directly from the Kinect-optimised OS). If bought as part of a Sky TV subscription, apparently it could be acquired at a "hugely reduced cost."
We may find out more at E3, though it's likely that games will play a pivotal role during Microsoft's press briefing.
