Internet super-sleuth Superannuation has dug up some potentially interesting details that suggest Monolith, the studio behind F.E.A.R. and Gotham City Impostors, may be working on the videogame tie-in for Peter Jackson's Hobbit movie.
Superannuation tweeted the intel over the weekend, which strongly hints at a Warner Bros/Monolith partnership for the upcoming film. As you'd expect, the smart money's on a hack & slasher with light RPG elements.
As to what Monolith/Warner Bros. Games Seattle is up to now – pretty sure it is a little fantasy action RPG-lite called The Hobbit: Part One.
Snowblind handled the latest Lord Of The Rings spin-off, the lacklustre War In The North, before being gutted in a round of layoffs. It's therefore likely that the Warner Bros. Seattle dev team will compose a core team of Monolith personnel with support staff from other studios.
Snowblind basically no longer exists, so WB Games Seattle is more or less Monolith and some other dev support/publishing staff and whatnot. It also sounds like WB Seattle will be handling the tie-in for the second Hobbit film.”
We'll keep an eye on the situation.
