RUMOUR: Secret AMD Collaboration For PS4?

Here we go again: another next-gen rumour. However, this one comes from respected business organ Forbes - who claim that AMD are currently involved in a "hush-hush effort" to supply Sony with a graphics chip for the PlayStation 4.

"[AMD CEO Rory] Read's job to make sure AMD doesn't screw up its slate of new products, which includes a hush-hush-effort to put its graphics chips in Sony's still-unannounced new game console - and shake off the once scrappy company's years-long funk."

Interesting. AMD already have console form, having provided the Xbox 360 with its beating Xenos heart... but the PS3 is powered by NVIDIA. If this rumour is true, relations between the three companies are soon going to get very frosty indeed. No-one's speaking out as yet, so we'll monitor the situation.

Oh god no. Having run both AMD and nvidia before, I can't say I am pleased to hear this. AMD spend too much time making the benchmark figures look great but leave a lot to desire in real world performance.

Nvidia will be busy with their 6xx series at the moment, with a release penned for april. AMD have just released their 7xxx series so would have more time to do this right now.

if AMD is indeed in the next PS, then all three consoles will be AMD powered, so basically the only reason to choose one over the other is down to exclusives, online experience and ofcourse controller preference.

AMD graphics card works quite well in consoles, the graphics chip in the 360 outperforms the PS3 by quite a margin, if not for the far superior Cell processor, all games would look better on the 360.
