Rumour: Sony's Smash Bros Contender Named PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale?

Sony have long been rumoured to be working on a Super Smash Bros-style brawler that brings together beloved protagonists from across their first-party exclusives, and if a new report is to be believed, the project now has a name. PlayStation Lifestyle has reportedly caught wind of an internal survey that canvasses opinion about 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale,'  which is tipped to be in development by internal studio Superbot.

This brawler originally surfaced under the alias of 'Title Fight,' with an early leak suggesting that Sweet Tooth, Parappa the Rapper, Sly Cooper, Kratos, Nathan Drake,Colonel Mael Radec and Fat Princess will all make an appearance. If these rumours are on the money, we can expect an E3 reveal.

Nice... might be the first fighter I have bought for a while.

What a waste of a license :(

Haha... how did I know you would hate this?

Battle Royale deserves a MUCH better (deeper) game than a crappy Smash Brothers game. The film covers some complex issues/themes that would not get the deserved attention.

And I don't have any kind of Playstation.

EDIT:
This article does NOT specifically mention the film of Battle Royale, so I'm not sure if this game is meant to be connected to it or not?

Don't worry, it definitely won't be connected to the film - the phrase "battle royale" is being used in its original sense.

On the other hand, a theoretical collaboration couldn't be any worse than Battle Royale 2. :p

Probably for the best then - but a Battle Royale game would be awesome.

Yeah I've never even bothered to watch the 2nd film - it sounded crap.

I have a limited edition DVD of the 1st film. I heard the blu-ray didn't include something? Not sure now. There seems to be two, one from 2000 and a limited edition one from 2010.

I'm not sure a game could do justice to BR unless it was handled with the utmost respect for the source material (and the complex issues/themes that you mentioned). A few studios would definitely be capable of handling such a feat, but they're few and far between. Plus, the need to include explicit, raw violence would probably deter most publishers who would want to secure a 12-15 rating.

I'd love to see it happen, though - done properly.

Also, well played - do not watch Battle Royale 2, whatever you do. My housemates and I were compelled to kill the DVD with fire, literally.

We'll get a Hunger Games tie-in before a Battle Royale one.

Hmm but I've actually been getting a lot of interesting ideas for an unoffical "Battle Royale" inspired game, so I might try to make it.

Do it!! Would be ace... you could have the 2 types of people. the sick f***s who just want to kill everyone for fun and those who would not want to kill their friends.

Could make for a really original game... but would probably just turn out like Dead Island.

Balancing would be a real issue, as would resource management. You'd have to provide incentives for people to band together temporarily. Maybe an arms cache can only be reached in tandem. Maybe medical supplies require simultaneous button presses at three stations, and then you find there's only one med pack.

You could partner up with a friend to take down everyone else, but you'd have to keep a constant eye on them to ensure they didn't turn on you early.

We're going to implement a ban on that film. Henceforth, no-one is allowed to mention that film. It never existed. Seriously.
