As part of Steam's week of THQ deals they are today offering Saints Row 2 for £3.75 - a quarter of the usual asking price. This compares against the best price for a PC DVD copy of the game (£7.99 from Blockbuster) and is a fraction of Direct2Drive's £29.95 price tag.
You'll have to be quick because I believe the offer is for today only.
2008's Saints Row 2 is an exuberant orgy of bad behaviour in a sandbox world, which draws constant comparisons to Grand Theft Auto. However SR2 is a whole lot more over the top with little regard for the realism that the GTA series has now come to embrace.
A direct sequel of the original Saints Row, the game cleverly gets around the break in realism caused by a customisable protagonist by beginning the story with the news that your character has had to have serious reconstructive surgery. It's completely up to you, not just how your character looks but also how s/he sounds and behaves.
The city of Stillwater is filled with missions for you to complete, people to chat to/arbitrarily beat to a bloody pulp, challenges to be unlocked and all kinds of items and vehicles to have fun with (and by "fun" I mean thievery and joyriding).
While it certainly does not have the same insane production values and attention to detail that Grand Theft Auto 4 is so lauded for, Saints Row 2 has a great deal to offer in the form of crazy, over the top action and a smorgasbord of violence.
