SEGA Shut Down Shenmue City

Only Lasted A Year

It appears no matter how much we clamor and cry for a new Shenmue game, SEGA doesn't care. Not content with a ten year hiatus stretching back to Shenmue II on the Dreamcast and original Xbox in 2001, the Japanese publisher has now terminated the mobile gaming spin-off, Shenmue City, after just twelve months.

SEGA actually announced the news last year, on December 26th - not much for festive cheer, then - but news has just reached us from the ever-reliable Japanese translating site, Andriasang, who broke the sad news. That said, Shenmue City was only available to owners of the Japanese-only Mobage mobile service, but its termination all but ends any hope of a Western version ever materializing. Suppose we'll just carry on hoping for Shenmue III, then. [Andriasang]
