Cliffhanger 'Calls On All Shadowrun Fans To Help'
The Shadowrun Online Kickstarter campaign is set to expire in less than eight hours... with Cliffhanger Entertainment still $20,000 behind their target at the time of writing. As a cross-platform MMO on PC and tablets, the project promised deep and versatile gameplay systems, but ran into trouble when attempting to explain their revenue model.
‘The project has been the subject of some controversy amongst players," Jan Wagner explained, "but we have tried to address the questions and concerns of the fans. There were some misconceptions based on our initial presentation, but we have made a point of engaging people directly and explaining to them the ambitious concept behind our game. In these last days on Kickstarter we have seen an overwhelmingly positive feedback for our new video and gameplay concepts. We are really unbelievably grateful for the enthusiastic community, which has grown around the campaign. I want to invite everyone who is skeptical to risk a second look at our Kickstarter page and see the rich potential the game has to offer. It is just a click away and it could mean the difference between seeing this project created or not. We call on all Shadowrun fans to help us make this game happen!"
Shadowrun Online will now be available as a dedicated client for PC, Mac, iPad2 and up, as well as Android Tablets. This level of community engagement also resulted in the decision to add an additional, completely new way to play the game: The Campaign Model. It is a Pay-to-Own revenue model, similar to Guild Wars or classic pen and paper games.
You buy the game once for the going price of a typical boxed game, or $25 for Kickstarter backers. It can then be played forever, just like any single-player RPG. There will be no subscription fees, though expansions and DLC will be made available.
Will you back it?
