And so the exodus continues. Speaking at GDC yesterday, Will Wright annouced that work is currently underway on several new projects - the first confirmation of such news since last game Spore hit the shelves in 2008.
So will he return on a glowing white charger to shake up the high-profile, big-budget battlefield once more with something wildly innovative and original? Well...no, would be the short answer...
'For the most part, the stuff we're working on is not shrink-wrapped, AAA, Xbox-only. It's stuff that's a little more diffuse, mobile, web,' stated Wright.
'I'm really interested right now in games that get people more engaged in the world around them rather than distract them from it. Using the world as a human platform rather than an Xbox. Kind of AR stuff.
'[...We're] trying to move gaming out into the wider world – toys, the web, stuff like that.'
With his ambitious TV series in the pipeline, not to mention a line of toys including an ant farm debuting later this year, Wright is certainly unafraid to explore new ground. Even on the smaller platforms, we'll be excited to see what he comes up with now there's no large body interfering with his work. [via EG]
