SimCity Red Cross DLC Donates 80% To Charity

EA has teamed up with the Red Cross for a new SimCity DLC pack, designed to raise money for the medical charity.

£7.99 will net you a Red Cross Relief Centre and two vehicles that respond to natural disasters, such as meteor strikes or tornados. Injured sims receive medical attention at Red Cross tents that spring up across the affected areas, eventually releasing healthy Sims back into society. Naturally the Red Cross will work in tandem with your existing infrastructure and emergency services.

It's a neat idea, and though £7.99 may seem a little steep, there's an interesting twist. EA will only keep 20% of all proceeds, the rest of which is donated to the specific Red Cross organisation operating within your territory. As an example, our money will go to the British Red Cross Society, as opposed to The American Red Cross.

“This creative partnership with SimCity will help us reach a new audience and raise awareness of the work of the Red Cross during real world disasters,  said Mark Astarita, Director of Fundraising at the British Red Cross “This will bring the Red Cross to life for gamers in an exciting and interactive way while raising vital funds to support our work helping people in crisis in the UK and overseas.”

Still seems evil to me, EA could easily afford to donate 100% of the profit from the sale of this digital content.

Keeping £1.60 of every £8 sale is still a nice little earner.

Because donating £6.40 and raising awareness for a charity is always evil.....

Personally think this fantastic from them.
