...actually you might

The Sims 4 has gotten itself a new 20-minute gameplay video showing off a whole host of content for the upcoming bundle of virtual puppet-mastery.

But the video also mentions something about a "Premium Membership" too, and that sounds rather familiar.

The small print reads like so:

"The Sims 4 Premium. Save on new packs with early access and exclusive items. Become a Premium member to get early access to three new packs, with exclusive items. Your Sims can throw a spooky costume party, camp in the great outdoors, and toast to the new year in style."

So far, so Battlefield. It looks like EA are essentially rolling out season passes across more IPs, and The Sims will be one of the first to get the Premium treatment. We've had Premium versions of Sims games before, and it looks like this'll be a one-time payment in advance for multiple DLC drops rather than a subscription of sorts.

Mind you, we loathe Season Passes here on Dealspwn, so we won't be buying it.

Cue some of the basic stuff not working, EA/Maxis disabling it while they look into the issue, then apparently ignoring it completely because they're busy making new DLC packs.

Yeah, I'm looking at you, SimCity and Battlefield 4.

Fingers crossed lessons have been learned. But I won't be surprised if the only lesson learned is "promise good stuff, get loads of preorders of the game and the season pass, cut corners, make mega-cash".

I'm not averse to season passes after the event, but paying for it up front, when all of the DLC could turn out to be utter rubbish, is stupid.
