This is a game that bathes in its science fiction roots, incorporating time travel, dangerous levels of radiation, a wacky new element with amazing properties, and an army of mutated creatures.
Cool Shop UK are parting with copies of the game for £29.99, which is pretty reasonable considering it only came out a few days ago and should also save you almost £3 on the next best offer of £32.95 coming in from Zavvi.
Whilst you could accuse the game of stealing a number of ideas from some fairly recent titles, the plot is pretty engrossing and you'll definitely get caught up in the temporal tale. Players take on the role of Black Ops soldier Nate Renko, who's team flies to the seemingly abandoned island of Katorga-12, after some abnormal radiation levels are detected coming from the floating landmass. Unfortunately, he crass lands on the island and stumbles across a Russian testing facility from the Cold war, and far more shockingly finds himself occasionally phasing back to 1955.
The gameplay initially takes the form of your typical first person shooter as you mow down the twisted test subjects that run towards you screaming their heads off (not literally though, otherwise they'd be pretty useless assailants). However, once you find the time manipulation device (referred to as the TMD by some of the characters) things start to get a little bit more interesting, as a whole range of powers become available to you. At this point, you'll probably be thinking this sounds a little bit like a rehash of Bioshock to me, but luckily the powers aren't identical and most revolve around the central theme of time travel including my personal favourite, which is the ability to age your enemies to a pile of ash within seconds.
This is a title that you might easily overlook, but I'd recommend that you give it a go otherwise you'll be missing out on a little gem.
