Exquisite downloadable fighting game Skullgirls has finally released on the European PSN, but Reverge Labs aren't finished yet. US publisher Autumn Games confirms that Skullgirls will release on PC later this year, packed with new features that will eventually bleed into the console versions.
As well as opening up this technical and ferocious fighter to a new audience, the PC version will contain a fair bit of retooled and improved functionality: including in-game movelists (an inexplicable omission in the console versions), additional tutorials, retuned single player AI, enhanced leaderboards, in-game name display for online matches, and additional multi-player regions. These features will be made available to PS3 and Xbox 360 players via automatic updates.
Since the day we announced Skullgirls, many gamers have been asking for news of a PC release. With the console versions recently launched, Reverge Labs is turning its focus to updating the game and bringing Skullgirls’ action to PC gamers. We’re thrilled with the very positive reception the game has received, and the great support and feedback we’ve been getting from the community on a number of ways to make the game even better, and we’re excited to be working on answering those requests. - Jason Donnell, president and COO, Autumn Games
Skullgirls will be available for download through GameFly, GamersGate, Impulse, Origin and Steam.
We described Skullgirls as "supremely balanced" and "intimidatingly sexy" in our 8/10 review, praising its ambitions to provide a level playing field for competition matches. Reverge succeeded in fine style, but newcomers may be better served with a larger, broader fighting game.
