Skullgirls' Fundraising tops 5K, Male Fighter Incoming

Lab Zero's hardcore fighter Skullgirls is to add its first male fighter, named Big Band, after the fan-driven Indiegogo fundraiser crossed the $375,000 mark.

Here's what the Indiegogo page has to say about the character of Big Band:

Ben Birdland has seen a lot in his time, including the worst of the Grand War. But nothing was worse than what he saw as a beat cop in New Meridian. When he ran afoul of his crooked unit he was given a violent early retirement, and his broken body was left to spend the rest of its days in an iron lung.

That would have been the end of Ben’s story if it hadn't drawn the ears of the Anti-Skullgirl Labs. With little left to lose, he agreed to be rebuilt with their experimental procedures. Melded with the machinery that allows him to breathe and a powerful an array of pneumatic weaponry, he was reborn as “Big Band.”

Having successfully funded another additional character - Squigly - in less than 24 hours, the further stretch goals to extend Skullgirls' content include a stage and story mode for Big Band, alongside another mystery character.

"Big Band's massive mechanical body is heavily armed with pneumatic weapons capable of generating powerful blasts of pressurized air," Lab Zero stated. "As his name implies, woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments are his forte, so expect him to produce variously-sized horns, flutes and drums for his attacks. Defensively, you can expect him to make good use of that dusty coat."

We gave the game 8/10 in our Skullgirls review. You can keep up with the campaign here.

Great news! Skullgirls has been my favorite fighting game of recent times - the lack of characters being the only real drawback for me.
Let's hope they keep being able to add more!

Scrolled past this image too quickly and got all excited... I thought it was another Day of the Tentacle! :(
