Xbox 360 Fans Breathe Collective Sigh Of Relief
Skyrim is massive. In the minute portion of the game demoed to us at GamesCom last week, the landscape stretched for miles in every direction, fish flocked in rivers, dungeons lurked in every corner and dragons swooped from the sky in dynamic fashion. It's big; it's very big. Thankfully, Bethesda have performed some technical voodoo magic and managed to fit all of this on one single DVD for the Xbox 360 release. Phew!
Bethesda confirmed the news to Ripten at PAX Prime over the weekend. With fellow Bethesda title, RAGE, shipping on multiple discs - probably due to its extreme visuals - fears were raised that Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim would suffer a similar fate on Microsoft's platform. If RAGE fits on a few discs, surely Skyrim would need half a dozen?
Nope, according to Bethesda. It will fit on just one! Developers have had six years to tweak and refine their compression engines to compensate for the 360's strict disc size limits, and of all the studios out there who'd need to have size in mind, it's Bethesda. However, the company wasn't willing to divulge details on an install size for Skyrim, although you can expect it to be pretty massive! [Ripten]
