Just in case you missed it, Zipper Interactive have dropped a few new details about SOCOM: Special Forces' unique new multiplayer mode. Bomb Squad is set to be an innovative new objective gametype based a mix of attack and desperate defence... and according to some newly-released beta intel, we'll be able to try it out sooner rather than later.
Bomb Squad will challenge a special forces team to defuse a selection of bombs that are liberally scattered around the arena. In an interesting twist, however, only one team member will be able to disarm the devices, and will spawn as the special 'Bomb Technician' character. He's far from harmless - since he packs an automatic shotgun (which we love, by the way) and grenade launcher - but he'll need to be constantly defended from ambush by his teammates. This should provide an interesting mix of tactics, gunplay and enough tense countdowns to trigger a major aneurysm.
Succeeding in Bomb Squad requires tactics, teamwork, patience and confidence to get the job done, all pillars of the overall SOCOM experience. - Chris Roper, Zipper Interactive Community Specialist
Zipper also revealed that this mode (along with three other gametypes) will be playable in the beta. Here's how it's going to go down:
- On March 15th, a private beta goes live. We’ll be contacting eligible players soon.
- Beginning March 22nd, PlayStation Plus members will gain access to the beta.
- On March 29th, anyone with a beta code included with Killzone 3 gains entry.
- Starting April 5th, the beta will be freely downloadable to anyone via PlayStation Network.
