SOE Live Keynote Round-Up

PlanetSide 2 Release Date & Wizardry Online Announced

Last night, Sony Online Entertainment broadcast their SOE Live Keynote, and while we were expecting news of PlanetSide 2’s release date, which has now been confirmed as November 21st, we also learned of a new MMO title from the studio called Wizardry Online. We have all the details, including the reveal video for PS2’s new continent Amerish, after the jump.

PlanetSide 2

As we reported yesterday, we knew a release date was to be announced during the keynote, and now we know that we have just over a month to go before the Free To Play MMOFPS sequel goes live. During the announcedment SOE president John Smedley introduced the first look at the third continent, Amerish, which will be unlocked on the release date. We have the video of the marsh-like environment below.

Other news to emerge from the keynote was that PS2 would be getting its own dedicated live-stream channel courtesy of Twitch.tv, and that the Alpha Squad pre-purchase program would be available until November 15th. Those that put money down for the game will be able to reserve their character name ahead of the launch, so if you want to ensure no-one steals your awesome name you’d best get on it. Elsewhere, it was revealed that the additional continents of Searhus, Osher, and Hossin would be coming post-launch, along with additional vehicles such as buggies and snowmobiles, and more functionality for Outfits (guilds) such as unique uniforms, decals, and specializations. It was also confirmed for post-launch that there would be player owned bases in the actual game world which could be attacked and defended.

Expect some in-game coverage on PlanetSide 2 very soon.

Wizardry Online

The keynote also revealed news of Wizardry Online, a modern take on the classic fantasy RPG Wizardry, will be going into beta on Octorber 29th. Touting “insane difficulty to complex mazes, unrelenting Mobs and traps around every turn”, Wizardry Online will feature permadeath to further raise the stakes. If you’re feeling brave enough, you can sign up for the beta test by heading over to the official website. You can check out the announcement trailer below.
