Sonic: Lost World To Be Wii U Exclusive As Nintendo and SEGA Announce Partnership

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced during today's Nintendo Direct presentation that Nintendo and SEGA have entered into a worldwide partnership for Sonic the Hedgehog titles.

Having trademarked the name Sonic: Lost World yesterday, SEGA will be bringing their brand new "action-adventure platforming game" exclusively to Wii U and 3DS.

“We're delighted to be forming this new partnership with SEGA, and bringing new games in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise to Nintendo systems,” said Laurent Fischer, Managing Director of European Marketing and PR at Nintendo of Europe. “We hope fans are as excited as we are when more details will be shown closer to E3."

So Nintendo have now bagged exclusive rights to Sonic. As someone who grew up during the SNES/Mega Drive war, I know what this means: the end times are coming.

Incidentally the SNES/Mega Drive war was also the last time that Sonic games were worth playing. I can't say that this represents a massive coup for Nintendo

I never would've believed this day would ever come, if told in the 90s.

I got all excited for a second there - thought the screenshot was from some crazy, 3D version of Settlers of Catan.

Great, Sonic AND Mario... that'll make everyone buy the Wii-U.

Hope it doesn't include the next Sonic racing game.
