Sony Confirms Vita Is Region-Free

If the Vita was shaping up to be any better, it would probably print money, dispense sweets and create world peace. The latest news regarding Sony's ridiculously sexy upcoming handheld is that SCE Worldwide President Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that the PS Vita will be region-free.

This means that the Vita probably could create peace if it wanted to, but more importantly, you'll be able to grab a Japanese unit when it launches this December rather than having to wait for the as-yet unspecified PAL release. Let us know if you're planning on doing so!

I'm actively considering a JP import for review purposes (and because I'm incredibly excited about the Vita, who am I kidding) - will need a power adaptor, mind.

Yeah, Rip Off Britain will make the US import option a very attractive proposition. Be sure to balance the potential saving with shipping costs though.

Hopefully the US or JP units will support the European PSN marketplace. I can't see why they wouldn't.

Don't forget to add the price of a mandatory custom memory stick which is around £90 for 32gb (Priced for Japan so expect it to be a lot higher here)and also a spare battery
