Sony To Demo 3D & AR Headsets At TGS [UPDATE]

Sony may be set to dip their toes in the wearable computing/augmented reality arena if a new video on their Japanese Youtube account is anything to go by.

UPDATE: Sony has confirmed that the HMZ Personal 3D Viewer will indeed make its debut at TGS, while a modified camera and gyroscope-equipped Prototype  - the 'SR' - will also make an appearance. More details on the new product page.

Spotted on NeoGAF, this new video seemingly outs a prototype augmented reality headset destined for a TGS 2012 reveal. According to the Google-Translated accompanying text, it's almost certainly in the testing stages, but promises "immersive pleasure" and "the possibility of new entertainment."

Despite being firmly in the prototype stages, this project does seem to demonstrate Sony's eagerness to explore the growing augmented reality market, which Google and Valve are currently investing in. Would this interest you in the slightest, dear reader?

If this were to sense a gun peripheral e.g. ps move Killzone 3 accessory and display it on screen it would be incredible. You could still use an analogue stick for running and strafing because let's face it, people aren't going to have the space or a 360 degree treadmill at home.

Is it? There seem to be a lot of reviews on YouTube already, presumeably pre-release units, but fully functional - price tag is $799.99.

Sony has now made the announcement public - it turns out that we're both right. :) They'll be demoing the new HMZ-T2 personal 3D display at TGS, but are also bringing a retrofitted prototype that contains a camera and motion tracking tech.
