Have You Encountered Error CE-34878-0?
Sony are currently investigating a worrisome PS4 bug that appears to be affecting a small but significant minority of PS4 owners; corrupting save files and progress across a number of titles from different publishers. Error CE-34878-0 seemingly strikes without rhyme or reason, though at least Sony has officially acknowledged the issue and are working on a fix.
More details, including a workaround, below.
The error has spawned a 36-page thread on the official forums [via CVG], with hundreds of players reporting save game corruption and in Battlefield 4, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, NBA 2K14, Call Of Duty: Ghosts and more. Some users report that their cloud saves are also affected. The variety of titles involved would seem to suggest that it's an issue with the hardware or OS as opposed to specific games, with no obvious cause or solution as-yet.
Sony community co-ordinator Lord Ross issued the following workaround:
"If you are experiencing this ce-34878-0 error code, please close the application and then install the latest system software and game patch.
If the error occurs again, initialise the PS4 system after back-up of the save data and please also submit any crash reports after re-booting your console when the error occurs."
In an official boilerplate statement, the company assured fans that they "are aware of the cases and we appreciate your patience while we investigate."
In the meantime, have you experienced this issue? Is it just a storm in a teacup? Let us know!
