Sony Offers Free Games As PSN Apology

Ever since Sony mentioned a "customer appreciation program" and a "make good plan" last month, we've been eagerly awaiting news of some concilliatory swag to make up for the recent PSN downtime. Sony previously announced that a free month of Playstation Plus would be extended to all PSN customers, but now they've also confirmed that free games will be a part of the package.

According to the EU Playstation Blog, PS3 customers will be able to choose and download two free games out of a choice of five - and PSP owners will have a choice of four. The list of games will differ for each region, and we'll let you know when it's announced.

However, Sony is apparently struggling with each country's individual data protection regulations in an effort to extend their data protection services to European consumers. There's no luck as yet, but we'll keep you posted.

Depending on the games they offer that's pretty decent considering the PSN is a free service.

PSN Plus isn't free, and I paid for plenty of games I can't make full use of (like Catan) or at all (like MAG). I got Dragin Age II with some DLC for my birthday in April and I still can't get the DLC. Sure, looks like I'll get one month's credit for my PSN Plus but that's just not charging me for what I haven't recieved and paid for so far.

The PSN is free, its the games publishers that are charging you to get online.

Talk about look a gift horse in the mouth.

Are you illiterate? He said PSN PLUS isn't free.

Whos the dick? You. But you're not only a dick, but you're also illiterate. GG.

Oh, and PSN isn't even free. You pay for it via the money you spend on your console/accessories/games purchases.

Jerec  May. 8, 2011 at 13:02

If I'm illiterate then he's clearly retarded seeing as the first post he replied to was about the PSN, not PSN Plus!

The original poster was saying considering the PSN is Free, us getting FREE games AND PSN Plus access is great considering we aren't paying to use it, and the games being offered as FREE are not the ones that require a PSN Plus Sub, just so you know.

As for it not being free, perhaps you should buy an Xbox 360 and compare the 2 services.

Stick that in your pipe mate and stop talking shit, prick.

I've been using PSN for nearly 4 years now and this is the first hiccup I've experienced, granted it is major one but I'm still a fan (yes call me a fanboy if you must).
I guess a welcome back freebie is nice but I'd rather they put effort into getting it back online.

Please come back soon PSN, I miss you.

Fair point, PSN+ should get rebate plus the free month.

ODB  May. 9, 2011 at 09:43

You seem to be missing the point of his post...

He pays for PSN+ but he's getting the same free month everyone else is who hasn't paid...despite him paying for it. In fairness PSN+ subscribers should be getting much more than this

Though this has changed now I believe - and I could be wrong - they are getting an extra month on top of what they are owed?

Don't get your xbox point though...for a start its got nothing to do with this thread but ignoring that I dont get the point your making? XBL is far superior to PSN...though having not experienced PSN+ I'm not sure how they compare but I'm willing to bet XBL would still come out on top

One thing though... I've downloaded the V3.61 firmware and how do I know if I moved on PSN+ (temporarily)? Thanks guys.

You really are illiterate, and retarded.

As ODB points out, Robovski makes a perfectly valid point about him being treat as less important than the regular customers, despite him being a PSN+ subscriber. And you called him a dick because he's getting it for free? Which he's not.

So you are indeed, a 100% confirmed, illiterate, retarded, dick. GG.

Oh, and about the xbox comment, I do have an xbox too. "As for it not being free, perhaps you should buy an Xbox 360 and compare the 2 services."

OK, heres my comparison. The exact same games/dlc on PSN, is 95% of the time about 20% more expensive than identical games/dlc on XBL. Most games on XBL that are 800 points (£6.50 ish) are £7.99/£9.99 on PSN. One game/dlc purchase per month, and it works out cheaper to subscribe to XBL than use PSN for free. And that isn't even mentioning that XBL is massively superior to PSN.

There. Thats how we pay for our FREE PSN access.

PS I'm not a fanboy, I love all three of my consoles (including wii!) for different reasons. But I'm not stupid enough to blindly claim something completely ridiculous when the truth is glaringly obvious.
