Sony Promises Better Vita Support After Sales "Exploded" Over Christmas

"The Cupboard Won't Be Bare"

Everything is totally fine as far as the PS Vita is concerned, at least according to Sony. UK boss Fergal Gara claims that the handheld saw a massive sales spike over Christmas, and promises many more new games in the pipeline.

"Vita really, really responded as we went into Christmas," Gara explained to MCV. "We had a pre-Christmas lull where sales were quite low. But that absolutely exploded 20-fold from that low-point into the peak of Christmas. That's very encouraging and shows that with the right promotion and software we can light that fire."

We have yet to see firm sales figures, but these things are always relative. Depending on how low the "pre-Christmas lull" actually was. Since Sony recently slashed annual sales forecasts yet again, so we look forward to poring over some balance sheets [and other financial reports, thanks Late] soon.

Gara also admitted that the first and third party games pipeline still isn't consistent, but that many more games are on the way. "It looks bare in terms of what we have announced", he said. "The cupboard won't be bare."

We feel that it has been an incredibly awkward first year for Sony's handheld, but as early adopters, we really want it to succeed. Here's a wish-list.

Still haven't watched that Sony press conference from a week or two back properly. Can the Vita be used as a ps4 controller? (I believe it can be used to stream games when the tv is in use, but I've no idea if it can be used as a controller like the U.)
Either way, I reckon the Vita will do a lot better when the ps4 comes out.

You won't find any details of sales on a balance sheet... :p
(Sorry - I hate the accountant in me...)

EDIT: crappy formatting (due to borked quotes code) amended.
